Death & Dumplings Day - 24.01.2026
On Saturday 24th of January 2026, I facilitated a death day with my closest friends. The intention of this day was to begin the conversation around death in order to acknowledge where we are all at in terms of level of comfort, understanding, hopes, beliefs and fears around death and end of life.
We discussed topics such as:
- Fear of dying or fear of being dead
- Concerns for the people you will leave behind
- The equation of how you respond to a particular persons death
- Imaging your moment or moments leading up to death, and what your preferred death would look like
- Voluntary Assisted Dying and taking ones own life
- Advanced Care Directives
The conversation was open, honest, curious, gentle, challenging, engaging and heartfelt. Each person participated fully, with their own perspective and experiences.
Then we drank much Soju, feasted on dumplings and spent time in the company of those we love. A way in which some of us mentioned we’d hope our dying moments would be - surrounded by our people, laughing, eating, loving, joyous, and slipping away quietly in our safe space.
I am eternally grateful to be received with open arms and to open these conversations for our chosen family.
